Kyanite is an aluminum-rich crystal that forms on metamorphic rock under extremely high pressure. Its distinctive blue color comes from iron and titanium, and some pieces with trace amounts of manganese can turn orange instead. This kyanite also contains inclusions of corundum, the same base mineral as rubies and sapphires.
